Solar Plants in Kerala

The sun is the greatest source of energy available to us in the universe. Solar energy derived from the sun is a non-conventional, renewable energy source. The sun provides energy that can be harnessed without causing any pollution. Solar cells serve as a means to utilize this energy by converting sunlight into electricity. A solar furnace is a system designed to generate electricity from solar energy on a large scale; it is shaped like a large concave mirror. The primary method involves using an array of mirrors to concentrate solar energy onto a single point, thereby generating intense heat that is used for electricity production. KSEB's first solar plant in Kerala was established at Kanjikode. Solar energy projects in Kerala are implemented under the aegis of ANERT, an autonomous agency established for the development of non-conventional energy. The fullform of ANERT is Agency for Non-Conventional Energy and Rural Technology. ANERT has been contributing significantly to the development and exploitation of New and Renewable Energy sources of the state. Solar thermal and Solar photovoltaic programmes are implemented by ANERT.
