Thermal Power Plants in Kerala
Currently, 22% of the electricity generated in Kerala comes from thermal power plants. In these plants, water is converted into steam by burning fuels such as coal and oil. This steam drives an electric turbine, which operates a generator to produce electricity. The major power plants are Kayamkulam thermal power plant of NTPC with an installed capacity of 359.6 MW, Kozhikode Diesel Power Project at Nallalam and Brahmapuram Diesel Power Plant (Kochi).
Brahmapuram Diesel Power Plant (Kochi)
It generates a maximum power of 106.6 MW. It is the first diesel power generating station of KSEB. It is commissioned in 1999.
Kozhikode Diesel Power Project at Nallalam (128MW)
It is the second diesel power generating station of KSEB.
Kayamkulam Power Plant
The project has started its commercial operations in 1999. It is the project of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). It is the first naphtha based plant. The plant has three units - two gas turbines and one steam turbine.
KPCL, Kasaragod
The Kasaragod Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL) operates an oil-based power plant located in Udma, Kasaragod district, Kerala, India. It generates a maximum power of 20.436 MW.
