FASTag

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued an order making FASTag mandatory for all four-wheelers entering the Indian market from December 1, 2017. This will help to avoid waiting at toll booths. Toll is a tax that has to be paid for transportation on bridges and roads. FASTag uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology that can be paid directly at the toll booths either as a prepaid card or through a savings bank account.

FASTag is a technology that uses radio frequency identification (RFID) cards attached to the front of the vehicle to be sensed by readers at the toll booths as vehicles pass through toll booths and automatically deducts the toll tax from the customer's card balance. FASTag is being implemented by the National Highways Authority of India in collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India.
