Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Kerala

All of the state's technical education initiatives are managed by the Directorate of Technical Education. The Directorate currently oversees 12 engineering colleges (9 government colleges and 3 government-aided colleges), 52 polytechnic colleges (46 government polytechnics and 6 government-aided polytechnics), 3 fine arts colleges, 39 technical high schools, 17 commercial institutes, and 42 tailoring and garment making centers operating throughout the state. Additionally, there are about 150 self-financing engineering colleges in both the public and private sectors functioning in the state.

The agency functioning two Regional Directorates and one Curriculum Development Center. For the benefit of the professors and students at the institutions, a Supervisory Development Center and an Industry Institute Interaction Cell are functioning. Exams at the diploma level are administered by the department's Examination Wing.

The Directorate oversees all of these institutions' activities, including upholding the standards for both extracurricular and academic pursuits. In order to preserve the caliber of technical education and ensure that the graduates of these schools are globally recognized, a number of quality assurance measures are being implemented.
