Kerala State Textile Corporation Ltd (KSTC)
Kerala State Textile Corporation Ltd was established in March 9, 1972 as a subsidiary of KSIDC with the objective of setting up textile mills in the state. Its registered office is in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The main objective of KSTC is setting up and running textile mills in the State, and uplifting the sick units in textile industry in Kerala. Operations commenced for Alagappa Textiles Ltd in Kochi, Parvathi Mills Ltd in Kollam, Vijayamohini Mills Ltd in Thiruvananthapuram, and Lakshmi Mills Limited in Thrissur. In 1975, these mills were taken over by the National Textile Corporation. Operations began for a testing laboratory named the Centre for Applied Research and Development in Textiles (CARDT) in 1982, and for Sitaram Textiles Limited and Trivandrum Spinning Mill in 2009–10. KSTC manages seven textile mills and a laboratory located across various parts of the state. Seven mills and a research and testing centre operate under the Corporation. The Corporation's research and testing centre called Centre for Applied Research and Development in Textiles (CARDT) is located at Balaramapuram in Thiruvananthapuram district. The seven mills are Prabhuram Mills, Kottayam Textiles, Edarikkode Textiles, Malabar Spinning and Weaving Mills, Pinarayi Hi Tech Weaving Mills, Komalapuram Spinning and Weaving Mills and Uduma Textile Mills. Two other units called Sitaram Textiles and Trivandrum Spinning Mills Limited are now under the administrative control of Kerala State Textile Corporation Ltd.
Kerala State Textile Corporation Ltd. can now produce a wide range of fabrics and supply processed fabrics, uniform cloths, ready-made clothing, and face masks after the installation of air jet looms at Komalapuram spinning and weaving mills and Pinarayi Hi-tech weaving mills. In addition to providing uniforms to KSRTC employees for the fiscal years 2023–2024 and 2024–2025, Kerala State Textile Corporation Ltd. is an enlisted supplier of khaki uniforms to Kerala police through several police canteens. At Nadukani KINFRA Park in Kannur, the organization is establishing a new printing and dyeing facility. The KSTC's output value was Rs 78.04 crores in 2024–2025, and its revenue from product sales was Rs 77.52 crores. Kerala State Textile Corporation Ltd has reported consecutive net loss during the last 5 years. The accumulated loss of KSTC at the end of 2024-25 is estimated to be about Rs 706.29 crores.
Sitaram Textiles Limited
It began in the year 1903. The Kerala government acquired the unit through a public auction in 1972. Following its official incorporation on February 14, 1975, the unit operated as a fully owned Government of Kerala Undertaking under the administrative supervision of the Industries Department. Sitaram Textiles Limited now employs 117 people in total. Only the Spinning Section is operational today and it has a capacity of roughly 25,000 spindles. Sales revenue dropped from Rs 3.72 crore in 2023–2024 to Rs 2.42 crore in 2024–2025. Over the years, it has reported a net loss.
Trivandrum Spinning Mills Ltd
Trivandrum Spinning Mills Ltd in Balaramapuram, a State Govt firm, formed on November 01, 1963, is one of the largest handloom centers in the State. In 1998, the unit was forced to close. Trivandrum Spinning Mills was transformed into a brand-new Open End (OE) spinning mill with imported state-of-the-art technology from the Czech Republic, Germany, and China under the EPCG (Export Promotion Capital Goods) Scheme as part of the Government of Kerala's effort to revitalize the industrial unit with the assistance of Kerala State Textile Corporation Ltd. The company resumed production in 2009 with a 360-rotor capacity. The company's rotor capacity is currently 680. There are 67 employees in the unit and accumulated loss is Rs 40.35 crore.
