Zinc and Lead Industry in India
India's lead and zinc industry is heavily dominated by the Rajasthan State, which accounts for approximately 90% of india's total ore resources and primary production. Minor reserves of zinc and lead exists in the states of Andhra Pradesh (Kurnool, Nalgonda), Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. The industry is dominated by Hindustan Zinc Limited (a subsidiary of Vedanta Limited), which holds roughly 75–80% of the domestic primary zinc market. It also serves as India's largest lead producer. There are four zinc smelters in the country - Aluva (Kerala), Debari and Chanderi (Rajasthan), Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh). The first lead smelting plant is Tundoo near Dhanbad by Metal Corporation of India. It was taken over by the Hindustan Zinc Ltd.
