Indian Oil Refineries

India is still not self-sufficient in crude oil production. However, we are very far ahead in petroleum refining. Therefore, it can be said that India is almost self-sufficient in petroleum products. There are about twenty-three oil refineries in India, both in the public and private sectors, including the world's largest refinery. Reliance's refinery located in Jamnagar, Gujarat is the world's largest refinery. This refinery has the capacity to process 1.24 million barrels of crude oil per day. Although private companies such as Reliance and Essar are also involved in the distribution of petroleum products, public sector companies are at the forefront. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is the number one petroleum company in India. Bharat Petroleum Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation are the other two public sector oil distribution companies.
