Jute Industry in India

Jute Industry is an export oriented industry. It also provides substantial employment opportunities in agriculture and industrial sectors. The first modernised jute mill in India was started at Reshra near Kolkata in West Bengal in 1855. It is the world number one in the raw jute and jute goods production. It is also number two in export of jute goods in the world. The largest producer of jute is West Bengal. It is followed by Bihar, Assam, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
