Ramanattam
Ramanattam is an art form created by Kottarakkara Thampuran due to his anger towards the Zamorin Manadevan, who refused to send Krishnanattam performers to his palace. This story is also told in connection with the origin of Krishnanattam. This art form is considered to be the first form of Kathakali. Ramanattam, which tells the story of Rama, was also performed on stage for eight days. This art form was presented in Manipravala language, a mixture of Malayalam and Sanskrit. Ramanattam was similar to Koodiyattam in terms of acting. It also has some elements of Koothu and Ashtapadiyattam. However, the steps and costumes are related to folk arts such as Thira, Theyyam, Mudiyetu, and Padayani. The rural style prevailed over the classical style.
