Kerala Nadanam

Kerala Nadanam is an art form created by Gurugopinath (1908-87) by combining the acting techniques of Kathakali with the dance techniques of Kerala folk dances and Bharatanatyam. It is a creative dance form that can be practiced by both men and women. Kerala Nadanam has a different costume from other dance forms. Like Kathakali, dramatic story acting is important in Kerala dance. Musical instruments such as chenda, maddalam and ilathalam are used in Kerala Nadanam. Kerala Nadanam is presented in five main styles: solo dance, group dance, ballet, duet dance and drama. He established the Vishwa Kala Kendram in Thiruvananthapuram.
